What if a technician doesn't finish in 12 months?

The license expires and would need to be renewed — most technicians who study consistently finish well before that.

Is this instead of a training program?

It's built to prepare technicians for national certification directly — useful whether or not your state requires a formal training program first.

Can technicians pay for their own license?

The license is sold to employers, but if that's a fit for your team, ask us when you reach out.
